Designer Style: Piero Fornasetti

Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) was a Milanese painter, engraver and interior designer who produced over 13,000 objects and pieces of furniture… which in terms of variety and scope is one of the largest collections of the 20th century. He worked using a lot of black and white and often designed with reference to the sun, time, nature and the elements… he was also influenced by Greek and Roman architecture which features in many of his designs. One of his most famous motifs is the face of Italian soprano Lina Cavalieri of which there are over 300 variations in his ‘Tema e Variazioni’ series. Today the Fornasetti Atelier is managed by his son Barnaba who has successfully maintained in-house production reviving as well as reinterpreting many of his father’s designs… with the furniture and objects produced being true re-editions of the original designs and using the decorative elements and imagery found in the immense Fornasetti archive
